A little guidance

How to choose

Start with what you cook. Choose the staples you use regularly; this is a cupboard guide, not a list everyone needs to buy. Pantry Staples has one choice per distinct need and no five-product category cap.

What we look for

Clearly declared ingredients, useful everyday roles and exact product scopes.

Testing and evidence

Ingredients and testing are reviewed separately. All new pantry picks show Testing not verified until the required numerical evidence has been reviewed. Organic certification and a testing claim do not automatically earn a testing seal.

Why are there more than five products here?

A pantry serves many different jobs. We choose one product per need, such as rice, olive oil or baking soda, rather than five versions of the same thing. The five-choice ceiling remains in other categories.
